Overview

NickPick.io is a free nickname generator run by Pavel Volkov (see the about page). There are no accounts, no sign-up and no forms that ask for personal details. What the site does record is described below, together with the choices you have.

Analytics

We use analytics services to understand how the site is used: which pages are visited, how long a visit lasts, browser and device type, approximate location at country or city level, and the page or search engine that brought you here.

  • Google Analytics on every page.
  • Yandex.Metrica on every page, including its click map, which records where on a page visitors click.

Both services receive your IP address in order to work and set their own cookies, with one exception: for visitors from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, Google Analytics runs without setting cookies. When you copy a nickname or save one to favorites, both services also receive that action as an event, together with the type of page and the part of it where it happened (Google Analytics also receives which page it was); the nickname itself is not sent to them.

Statistics we record ourselves

When you copy a nickname, save it to favorites or remove it from them, the site sends one record to its own server: the nickname, the action, the filters that were active, the page and the part of it where you took the action, the interface language, a random session identifier your browser generates for the current tab session, a hash of your browser's user-agent string, and your IP address shortened to its network (the last part of an IPv4 address is dropped). These records tell us which names and filters people find useful. They contain no name, email or account, because the site has none, and they are not shared with anyone. They are kept for as long as they serve those statistics.

Favorites and local storage

The list of your favorite nicknames lives in your browser's LocalStorage and never leaves your device; we cannot see the list. Saving or removing a favorite does send the event described above. Clearing site data in your browser removes the list.

Cookies

Cookies are used for:

  • Analytics (Google Analytics, Yandex.Metrica)
  • Advertising, described in the next section

Advertising

NickPick.io is free and may display advertising: on the Russian pages (addresses starting with /ru/) served by the Yandex Advertising Network, on all other pages by Google AdSense.

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
  • You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info and, in the European Union, at www.youronlinechoices.com.

The site does not ask for consent to personalised advertising, so in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland Google shows only ads that are not personalised and does not use advertising cookies for them.

Correspondence

If you write to us by email or Telegram, we keep the message and your address for as long as needed to answer and to keep a record of removal requests. They are used for nothing else.

Third-Party Services

The services above are governed by their own policies: the Google Privacy Policy (Analytics and AdSense) and the Yandex Privacy Policy (Metrica and the Advertising Network).

Your Choices

  • Block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
  • Install the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.
  • Use the advertising opt-out links above.
  • Clear LocalStorage to remove saved favorites.
  • Ask us by email to delete the correspondence we hold from you.

Children

The site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
